I everyone, I am scheduled for surgery on 7/8 and am beginning to panic. Is there some one out there that can give me advice as to dealing with the stress of surgery. Advice on vitamins and protein drinks would also be appreciated. I would like to be able to communicate with a couple of people who are having the surgery around the same time.
Thanks
Wendy

Hey Wendy,
My date is 7/9 :) I'm not nervous yet but I am excited... Everyone tells me that any chewable vitamin is fine. And the chewable tums for calcium.. Also alot of folks I know use the zero carb perfect Isopure protein drink, it has 50grams of protein per surveing. I sure hope this helps... You are in my prayers :D

Chewable Tums is calcium carbonate which is not absorbed well following surgery as it requires the digestive enzymes that are in the "old" stomach. Calcium Citrate is what you need to be looking for.

Wendy, some things to take to the hospital with you are: Chap Stick, and slippers that you can get on easily so you dont have to bend over. They will have you up and walking real soon.
Good luck!!!

Hi Wendy, I Know what you mean about panicing, I went for my consult on the 16th of june and my surgery is on the 25th of june. I have been in a zone every since they called me friday. I would like to talk to someone also. Thanks BONNIE

Hi everyone, My name is Kim. I am 4 weeks post-op. I havent weighed in since 2 weeks post-op and I was down 32.5 lbs then. I just started my vitamins. I get from dietexperts.com. I use the liquids. Calcium, Iron, B-12 (dissolved under the tongue) and they have a good hair care, Biotin vitamin. I have been drinking Isopure Protein shakes. Well my advice to you, Is don't be nervous! Enjoy yourself, your family. You are about to start a new life. The weight just melts off. It is very emotional. All the years carrying weight you don't need, and in a couple of months you lose almost all of it. Eat your favorite meals now.... Eat the whole bowl. Enjoy!!! I hope I have helped.
TY Kim

The weight doens't just melt off for everyone-some of us it comes off alot slower than others. I am almsot 4 months out and have only dropped 50 lbs. Everyone is different! However, if I had to do it all over again-I would! Just follow your doc's advise and eat what you are suppose to and it will come off.

Wendy,
We both have the same surgery date. July 8th which happens to be my mothers birthday. We will both be on the losing side in no time. I have had had night terrors a couple of times in the past month and a half. What keeps me from being too stressed out is knowing that I will feel and look better after the surgery. I can't wait to be able to go through a day and not have my hips and back hurt all the time. I wish sometimes I could just go into the hospital today! and get it done. So I can start the process to my new life. This site has helped a lot lately.
I hope and know everything will be alright if I just put my faith in Christ and follow his direction. Than I know there is nothing I cannot do.

Hi wendy, I've just had my surgery june 12th and I was a total BASKETCASE before hand. It's completely natural to feel nervous and elated all at the same time. But I can assure you that 1 week post op you'll be saying " geesh, all that panic and its all over with". Maybe your Dr can prescribe something for you till surgery, mine did and it helped alot. It calmed my nerves and also helped me sleep without making me feel all drugged out. It's called ativan and mine
was a mild dosage.
About the vitamins and stuff, I take a childrens chewable vitamin with iron, chewable calcium, liquid vitamin B12, and an iron pill called slow FE. The B12 is a little nasty tasting but tolerable. I make myself a protein shake consisting of chocolate protein mix, SF carnation instant breakfast, skim milk and a packet of splenda. I add about 4 ice cubes to it and mix it in the blender. The trick is to drink it before the ice totally melts or the taste changes completely. (YUCK) It's actually pretty good when cold, kind of like a Wendys frosty. I buy all my supplements at wal mart as they are MUCH cheaper than GNC or other places like that.
I hope I've been some help to you, I've gotten so much help from this site that I want to give some back in return. Good luck with your surgery, I'll keep ya in my prayers....Keep me posted ok ?
